Phil Underwood is that rara avis—-that rare bird among consultants. He not only understands the nature of the church as a missional community; he can read and braille a church culture in record time, and help you discover yourself how to turn monuments and museums into movements, and mission fields into mission forces. His spirit is affirming, encouraging, upbeat, and you always want to be around him because of his inspirations for your aspirations.

Phillip is a long time friend, colleague, and practitioner of missional church approaches. He is charming, intelligent, generous, and insightful man. I think he's incredibly awesome! Great energy and vibe.
Phil cleverly combines the power of narrative and the power of timely ideas to make a point about ministry impact. He is not only a warm-hearted leader  but also proves to be a good guide for others taking their churches on a similar journey.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Phil Underwood in action, and he is the real deal. He's not one of those consultants who just gives you a cookie-cutter plan and walks away. With over 40 years of ministry under his belt—from pastoring a big church in Atlanta to planting a vibrant one in the Florida Keys—he has a practical, hands-on understanding of what it takes to lead. Phil has this incredible ability to read a church's culture and then, with his generous and encouraging spirit, help leaders make the shift from maintenance to mission. He truly gets people and knows how to foster genuine connections. He is a truly invaluable partner for any church looking to grow and embrace a fresh vision

Having Phil in our church was a time when I received enlightenment, a greater understanding of the new wineskins for the new wine. The importance of having grown in the planning and refocusing process was evident. I received encouragement to lead, through my own experience, the P3 (Presence, Personality, & Power of Jesus) and the 2-4-6-8 plan of building local church ministry.

Phil Underwood has visited our churches for many years now. His ministry has been deeply enriching and impactful. I observed a strong emphasis on Spirit-led leadership, practical discipleship, and authentic community engagement. The ministry fosters an atmosphere of openness to the Holy Spirit, balanced with strategic insight and a deep love for people. Phil’s heart for developing leaders and equipping the church to live missionally is evident and inspiring.

I’ve had the privilege of observing Phil Underwood’s ministry and I’ve also personally experienced its deep and lasting impact in my own life. Phil ministers with grace, authenticity, and Spirit-led insight, helping people discover their true identity in Christ. His sessions bring freedom from performance-based faith and invite others into healing, wholeness, and a deeper relationship with Jesus. I’ve seen lives transformed—including my own—through his willingness to minister with vulnerability, truth, and the power of grace. Epic Grace Ministries is a living testimony of the Father's heart to restore, awaken, and empower His people.

Phil Underwood has been able to understand 80 percent of the pastors and church staff members in America and discerned from them the kind of dissatisfaction that arises when someone realizes there must be a better way, but is not sure exactly what it is. His perceptive analysis and subsequent insightful recommendation for church redirection are a spiritual prescription that makes abundant sense.

I love what Phil is doing with this. I know the wonderful fulfillment and yet the dizzying disappointment of building a large church, with an attractional model. Multitudes of church leaders, over the years, came to see how we were doing, what we were doing. However, the more we succeeded, the more I grew suspicious, that we were grasping a part of what the church was all about, and yet were missing an important piece of it. In recent years there have been several great books around how to develop a healthy rhythm around the “gathered” and “scattered” church models…. and what does it mean to live missionally. I’ve known Phil for a couple of decades and know firsthand the grand passion he carries to help facilitate the experience of an impactful church.
